I’ve been to a lot of temples in Nashik. You might already know about the famous Nashik temple in Trimbakeshwar. Owing to my experience in Nashik, this guide introduces you to rest of the Mandirs.
If you are planning to visit these temples, there are some two things you should keep in mind:
- Dress conservatively (traditionally). People follow the dress code of any club or bar, no questions asked. I expect you to do the same for our temples.
- Check for photography rules before clicking any photos.

5 Must-Visit Mahadev Temples in Nashik
1. Trimbakeshwar Mandir
Trimbakeshwar is the one of the most, if not the most, famous temple in Nashik. It is home to one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, making it a highly significant temple.
This Nashik temple is actually located in Trimbak, the place where the Godavari river originates. It is also near the birthplace of Mahaveer Hanuman, incarnation of Mahadev.
2. Shree Kapaleshwar Mahadev Mandir
This ancient Nashik temple has no Nandi, which is unusual for a Shiva temple. The reason being, in this temple, Nandi is considered to be Mahadev’s guru. So, out of respect, Nandi refused to sit in front of Mahadev.
Shree Kapaleshwar Mahadev Mandir is believed to be around 600 years old. Every Saturday, a special maha-aarti is performed. The aarti goes on from 8 Pm- 11 Pm, attracting many devotees.
3. Naroshankar Temple
Naroshankar Temple is located on the banks of the Godavari River. It features 9 planet kundalini sculptures carved in sandstone, something very rare in Indian temples.
The temple was built in 1747 by Naroshankar Rajebahaddur, a commander of the Marathas. It temple features a 6-foot bronze bell that can be heard up to 5 kilometers away. The temple & this bell has a historical significance related to the Peshwas.
4. Sri Tilbhandeshwar Mahadev Mandir
Sri Tilbhandeshwar Mahadev Mandir features a swayambhu (self-formed) idol of Lord Shiva. This unique linga grows every year by the length of a til (sesame) seed.
It is also considered to be the largest linga in Nashik, standing 2 feet tall and 5 feet in circumference.
5. Shri Someshwar Mahadev Mandir
Shri Someshwar Mahadev Mandir is situated on the banks of the Godavari River. It is among the oldest Nashik temple, known for its peaceful surroundings.
The temple is also a popular small picnic spot. Devotees enjoy boating on the river & visiting the small waterfall nearby.

6. Kalaram Mandir

Kalaram Mandir is a significant monument, both historically & religiously. It’s a temple famous for having black idols of Lord Ram, Laxman, Devi Sita & Mahaveer Hanuman. Also, the idol of Shri Ram is in the abhaymudra pose, again something not seen in other temples.

7. ISKCON Sri Sri Radha Madan Gopal Mandir

ISKCON Sri Sri Radha Madan Gopal Mandir is a Krishna temple focused on bhakti yoga. It hosts a regular Sunday Feast & Wednesday Gitamrita (Gita recital) classes, attended by hundreds of devoted followers. The temple’s decorations and celebrations during Janmashtami are a must-see.
8. Dharmachakra Tirth Goshala

Dharmachakra Tirth Goshala is a Jain temple in Viholi. With a 12-foot-tall, 12-tonne idol of Lord Mahavir, the entire structure is built using stone and marble.
The temple also has a gaushala (cow shelter) on its premises along with a dharmashala (accommodation) & bhojanshala (eatery).
9. Shree Navshya Ganpati Mandir

Shree Navshya Ganpati Mandir is a 250-year-old temple of Ganpati Bappa. Devotees believe that their prayers (Navas), are fulfilled by Bappa in this temple. So they tie bell rings and offer coconut torans to Bappa. Many visitors feel a transcendental presence, making this Nashik mandir a must-visit on their list.
10. BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Nashik

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a huge temple devoted to Lord Swaminarayan. Visitors advise to devote about 2 hours to tour the whole temple properly.
The temple is known for its architectural beauty. It features intricate hand carvings that depict epic stories like the Ramayana and Samudramanthan.
11. Sita Gufa

Sita Gufa is located in Panchavati, where Shri Ram spent 2.5 years of his 14-year exile. The cave is believed to be the place where Maa Sita was abducted by Ravana. The cave is where Maa Sita resided while Shri Ram & Laxman went in search of food.
The cave is accessed through a small staircase and houses idols of Shri Ram, Sita, Laxman. It also has a Shiv Linga, where Maa Sita used to worship her Aradhya, Mahadev.
12. Bhadrakali Devi Mandir

The Bhadrakali Devi Mandir is one of the Shakti Pithas. This in-itself highlights the temple’s immense significance. It attracts a lot of devotees during Navratri. The events & festivities during Navratri should be particularly experienced.
13. Shree Gomay Hanuman Mandir

Shree Gomay Hanuman Mandir Devsthan is the holy place where Shri Samarth Ramdas Swami meditated and prayed for twelve years. He personally crafted and installed an idol of Lord Hanuman using gomay (cow-dung). Thus the name Gomay Hanuman mandir.
This Nasik temple features a stone meditation room, gupha (cave). This is where Shri Swami used to meditate. The cave now stands as a place of peace for visitors.
14. Shree Laxmanji Sheshavatar Mandir

Shri Laxman Ji Mandir is the only temple in India where Laxman Ji is worshipped in his Seshnag avatar. This is the place where Shri Laxman cut off the nose of Ravana’s sister, Shurpanakha. The temple features a statue depicting this event.
Unlike other temples, this one stands out for not having the idols of Ram and Sita along with the idol of Shri Laxman. It instead features Mahaveer Hanuman facing the idol of Shri Laxman along with an idol of Lord Ganesha (Bappa).
15. Siddh Hanuman Temple

The Siddh Hanuman Temple is located in Anjaneri, the birthplace of Shri Hanuman. It features a large idol of Mahaveer Hanuman. The temple is situated at the foothill of Anjaneri Hill, the place where Hanumanji took his first jump.

Sundar Narayan Mandir is located on the banks of the holy river, Godavari. The temple houses idols of Lakshmi, Narayan, and Saraswati. It is well-known for its beautiful architecture, especially considering it was built around 250 years ago.

Muktidham Mandir is a Nashik temple that houses multiple deities. The structure of the temple is built with beautiful white marble facade. It features replicas of the 12 Jyotirlingas, with walls beautifully carved with all the verses of the Bhagavad Gita.

Balaji Mandir, also known as Prati Balaji, is dedicated to Lord Balaji. The temple’s design is inspired by the famous Tirupati Balaji Mandir in Andhra Pradesh, making it a replica or “Prati” of the original.

20) Modkeshwar Temple : This temple is dedicated to a Swayambhu (self formed-idol) of Lord Ganesh. It is located on the banks of the holy river Godavari. The idol of Lord Ganesh is like a ‘Modak’, hence the name Modkeshwar.
21) Bali Maharaj Mandir : This 200-year-old temple is dedicated to King Bali, the great devotee of Lord Vishnu. While exploring the temples of gods & goddesses, visit this temple of king of the demons as well.
22) Kalika Mata Mandir : Dedicated to Maa Kalika this temple was built in the Maratha regime. This 300 year old temple draws thousands of devotees during Navratri festival.
23) Shri Laxmi Narayan Mandir : This colourful Laxmi-Narayan temple is an important temple of Panchavati. This temple hosts the saints & gurus during Nashik’s Kumbh Mela.
24) Shree Dholya Ganapati Mandir : This is a 250 year old temple built by the Peshwas, is dedicated to Lord Ganesh. It gets its name from the huge appearance of Bappa’s idol.
25) Bhaktidham : This is a relatively new Nasik temple, built around 50 years ago. It houses idols of multiple Hindu gods. The temple is also known for its peaceful environment. It is an ideal spot for meditation and prayer.
26) Shree Dutondya Maruti Mandir : This Hanuman temple is on the banks of holy Godavari. This Nashik mandir is a single stone with Lord Hanuman (Maruti) carved on both sides. Thus the name Dutondya (two faces).
27) Nilkanteshwar Mahadev Temple : This temple is a 300 year old temple of Mahadev on the banks of holy Godavari. Considering the age of this temple, its architecture is praised by the devotees who visit.
28) Shree Ayyappa Temple : This beautiful temple is dedicated to shri Ayyappa, a deity worshipped mainly in South India. It attracts a lot of South Indians, especially Malayali devotees.
