There are many hill stations near Nashik. Though this blog introduces you to only the easy-to-reach weekend getaways near Nashik.

I’ve been in Nashik for a long time, so I can easily tell the convenient spots from the ones that are hectic to reach. All the hill stations mentioned below are within 200 km of Nashik.

1. Jawhar Hill Station

Distance from Nashik
75 Km approx.

Ideal For
Exploring waterfalls & other attractions

Jawhar is one of the lesser known hill stations near Nashik. The hill station has a bunch load of waterfalls & is, thus, also known as the city of waterfalls.

Waterfalls like Kalmandavi & Dabhosa, the Jay Vilas palace & Hanuman Tekdi are some of the famous attractions of this place. There are many other spots you can ideally cover in a 2 or 3 days trip. There’s plenty of good accommodation available as well.

Though not far from Nashik, it takes around two hours to reach Jawhar. You can reach Trimbak in about 30 minutes, and then take National Highway 160A from there to Jawhar.

2. Igatpuri Hill Station

Distance from Nashik
50 Km approx.

Ideal For
Private stays at resorts

Igatpuri is the closest & most popular hill station near Nashik. The place is known for its natural beauty & attracts a lot of people, especially in monsoons.

There are many waterfalls & forts in Igatpuri. It is also famous for the Vipasana (meditation) Center. Although, people usually visit Igatpuri to take a time-out from everyday life. There are many excellent resorts in Igatpuri where people stay at the weekends & just relax.

Monsoons & winters are the best times to visit this Nashik hill station. The temperature is moderately cold & skies are covered with clouds.

You can take the Mumbai-Agra Highway & reach Igatpuri in about an hour or so. I can say from my experience that the road to Igatpuri from Nashik is good, although beyond that the Mumbai-Nashik highway is a headache.

3. Saputara Hill Station

Distance from Nashik
80 Km approx.

Ideal For
Exploring famous attractions & the food culture

Saputara is the best hill station near Nashik that I’ve visited. I say this because the vibe of the people in Saputara is very friendly & joyous.

The hill station has common attraction like waterfalls, some view points & horse riding. It is also known for the Saputara lake, where you can do boating as well. Street shopping is also a big attraction of this hill station.

Although the thing I enjoyed the most in Saputara is its food. Saputara comes under Gujarat, so it’s needless to say the hill station is a gem for foodies. From snacks to meals, you can have options for everything.

It takes about 2-3 hours to reach Saputara through Nashik-Saputara road. The road to this hill station is also very beautiful, specially in monsoons.

4. Lonavala Hill Station

Lonavala hill station

Distance from Nashik
200 Km approx.

Ideal For
Private stays at resorts

Lonavala is the farthest hill station from Nashik, at least among this list. Lonavala is one of the most famous hill stations of Maharashtra (& India). Many big celebrities have weekend homes in Lonavala, which speaks to the beauty of this place.

I’ve been to Lonavala 10 times or so. The hill station is famous for its many resorts & villas, ideal for private outings, which more & more people are looking for. The beauty of this hill station is that it’s good for couples, families & bachelors all alike.

There are two routes from Nashik to Lonavala. You can either go through the Nashik-Shahapur-Karjat road. Or you can take the newly build Nashik-Pune highway & then jump on the Pune-Mumbai expressway. I personally prefer going through Pune as the roads are much better. Though either ways it will take you around 5-6 hours to reach Lonavala from Nashik.

5. Matheran Hill Station

Distance from Nashik
160 Km approx.

Ideal For
Photography & sightseeing

Matheran is another good hill station near Nashik which you can visit conveniently. It is a go-to spot for people near Mumbai, attracting visitors from Pune as well.

The whole hill station is very picturesque making it ideal for photoshoots. There are many viewpoints in Matheran which have breathtaking views. Although you’ll have to choose which points to visit according to the timing as the place gets easily overcrowded. The spots are often flooded by people during sunsets.

It takes about 4 hours to reach Matheran from Nashik. You can jump on the Nashik-Mumbai highway and divert to Neral from Shahapur. From Neral there’s this famous toy train which takes you to Matheran.

6. Malshej Ghat

Distance from Nashik
130 Km approx.

Ideal For
One-day trip in monsoon

Malshej ghat is another offbeat hill station near Nashik, which can be covered in a one day trip.

This hill station is also known for its breathtaking views & calming greenery. The road to Malshej ghat is also very scenic, especially in monsoons. There are many viewpoints to visit where you can take some pictures & chill for a while.

One of the eight Ashtavinayak temples, Shree Vighnahar Ganapati Mandir, Ozar, is within 40 kms of Malshej ghat which you can cover in a days trip.

That said, the hill station is not very commercialised so you can’t nothing fancy here. The hill station is ideal for a long ride from Nashik & enjoying relaxing views during the monsoons. That’s it!

You can reach Malshej Ghat from Nashik from either the Mumbai-Nashik highway or Pune-Nashik highway. Considering the renovations on Mumbai-Nashik highway I’ll advise you to take the Pune-Nashik highway. Though, either ways it will take you about 4 hours to reach your destination.

7. Bhandardara Hill Station

Bhandardara Nashik hill station

Distance from Nashik
75 Km approx.

Ideal For
Exploring waterfalls & dams

Bhandardara is one of the most famous Nashik hill station. This place gets crowded with visitors in monsoons, the ideal time for visiting dams & waterfalls.

Bhandardara is known for its waterfalls, offering a great long ride and even better views. The above photo is from my trip to Vasundhara falls in 2023. The Wilson Dam is another popular attraction of Bhandardara featuring a huge dam constructed in 1910. The water from this dam creates a beautiful view, famously known as the Umbrella Falls.

You can reach Bhandardara within 2 hours from the Nashik-Mumbai Highway. You’ll have to get off the highway just before Igatpuri & it’ll take about 25 minutes from there.

8. Suryamal Village

Distance from Nashik
70 Km approx.

Ideal For
Long rides & sightseeing

Suryamal is a just a small village in Thane district. This hill station near Nashik is the known to be the highest peak of the region.

Suryamal is not a commercial place like other hill stations. It is perfect for a long ride, especially on a bike, in monsoons. There are many points as well as the huge upper vaitarna reservoir on the way. You can enjoy the views of the scenic road and the even better destination at the famous sunset point.

You can get to Suryamal from either Trimbak or Nashik-Mumbai highway. Irrespectively, you’ll reach your destination in about 2 hours or so.

9. Kasara Ghat

Distance from Nashik
60 Km approx.

Ideal For
Photography & sightseeing

Kasara Ghat, as the name suggests, is a mountain pass for the Nashik-Mumbai Highway. This Nashik hill station is known for its picturesque views of the valley and the adjoining highways, just like the Khandala section of Mumbai-Pune expressway.

There is not much to explore here apart from a few waterfalls, so I don’t advise a separate trip to Kasara Ghat. It’s would be ideal to visit this place in you’re on the Mumbai-Nashik highway (or if you’re up for a late night tea break)

Just a few kms ahead of Igatpuri, you reach Kasara Ghat in under 90 minutes from Nashik. A word of advice from my experience: The mountain pass is extremely dangerous during the monsoons, so be cautious and drive safely.
